Bringing the Havanese community together — beyond the show ring
The majority of Havanese in the UK are beloved companions, living their best lives in family homes across the country. Some owners are show exhibitors or undertake other canine activities with their beloved pups. Some will undertake training to qualify their Havanese as therapy dogs.
Others prefer walking, travel, lounging on the sofa, or a combination of all the above.
We at the HCGB are here for all of you.
In 2026 the Club appointed its first Pet Ambassador: Kimberley Smith (Mooncast).
Kimberley's role is to connect with pet owners, create opportunities for Havanese and their humans to meet, and make the Club feel like a place where everyone belongs — whether you've never been to a dog event or have been an exhibitor or agility enthusiast for decades.

What's on
Kimberley organises a growing program of events for members and non-members alike:

Pack walks at beautiful heritage sites and National Trust locations across the East Midlands — gentle, sociable, pushchair-friendly walks with plenty of time to chat, take photos, and let the Havanese get acquainted. Picnics encouraged.

Seasonal themed walks — from the Pumpkin Pack Walk at Rufford Abbey to a Christmas jumper walk in December. Costumes for dogs and owners warmly encouraged; prizes for the best dressed.

Online competitions — photo competitions, colouring competitions, and seasonal challenges open to members and non-members across the UK and Ireland. Free to enter, all ages welcome.

Fun shows and social days — informal events where the emphasis is on enjoyment rather than results.

The best way to hear about upcoming events first is to join the HCGB Facebook group — this is where Kimberley posts announcements, photos from past events, competitions, and RSVP details.

The Pet Ambassador role is supported by the HCGB committee. Events are run by volunteers for the love of the breed.
A note for new owners
If you have recently brought a Havanese home and are not sure where to start, the Pet Ambassador programme is a great first step. Pack walks are a wonderful way to meet experienced owners, ask questions in a relaxed setting, and watch your Havanese discover the joy of meeting their own kind.
You do not need to be a Club member to come along — though we hope you'll want to join once you've seen what the community is like.
