Report a Health Condition
Help us build a true picture of Havanese health in the UK
Every health report submitted to the HCGB adds to our understanding of the breed. We cannot identify patterns, prioritise research, or give owners and breeders reliable guidance without data — and that data can only come from you. Whether your dog has been diagnosed with a condition, has shown signs that concern you, or has had a DNA test result, we want to know.
We are interested in the full range of health conditions — not just serious or rare diagnoses. Everyday problems matter just as much as major ones.
The examples below illustrate that we are interested in problems big and small, and the list is not exhaustive:
🐾 Skin conditions: itching, recurrent skin infections, hair loss, allergies
🐾 Digestive problems: recurrent tummy upsets, vomiting, pancreatitis, anal gland issues
🐾 Dental disease: tooth loss, periodontal disease, retained puppy teeth
🐾 Eye conditions: cherry eye, cataracts, dry eye, distichiasis
🐾 Orthopaedic conditions: patella luxation, cruciate ligament injury, hip or elbow dysplasia, IVDD
🐾 Heart conditions: mitral valve disease or murmurs
🐾 Urinary problems: bladder stones, recurrent infections
🐾 Neurological conditions: epilepsy, intervertebral disc disease
🐾 Behavioural concerns: significant anxiety, fearfulness, or aggression
🐾 Cancer: any diagnosed tumour, benign or malignant
🐾 Any other condition diagnosed by a vet, or that you feel is worth noting
What reporting is — and what it isn't
Health reporting is not about blame.
🐾 Submitting a report does not flag your breeder, affect your dog's registration, or trigger any investigation.
🐾 The HCGB uses health data solely to monitor trends across the breed population — the same way the NHS monitors disease patterns across the human population.
🐾 Individual reports are never shared publicly, and no dog or owner is ever identified in published findings.
🐾 If your dog has a health condition, that is not a reflection on you or your breeder.
Inherited conditions exist across all breeds, and honest reporting is the only way the breed community can work together to reduce their frequency over time.
🔒 YOUR PRIVACY MATTERS
Data protection
Health data submitted to the HCGB is held securely by the Health Co-ordinator and used only for breed health monitoring and research purposes. It is not shared with third parties. You may request that your submission be withdrawn at any time by contacting the Health Co-ordinator directly.
🐾 The HCGB handles all personal data in accordance with UK data protection law (UK GDPR).
